Gotta Get Drunk

By Diane Ursu

It took a while to get out the door, but I finally managed to arrive in Copper Harbor in time for the group ride with our IMBA friends. I really wasn’t feeling it, though. I climbed Garden Brook with everyone, and split from the group to ride down the Red Trail. I . . . was . . . tired.

I finally discovered why I’ve been feeling sluggish (girl stuff), and decided to just go with it. There is no shame in doing a short ride (short being 90 minutes) when in Copper Harbor. One thing is for sure, the climbing is there.

We finished off the evening with a free spaghetti dinner provided by The Mariner North followed by a one-man band in the park on our new stage.

I can’t remember the guy’s name, although I’ve been told what it is several times, this weekend, but he was funny as hell. He sang an original for us that we nicknamed the “get drunk” song. We were feasting on a keg, so it’s hard to remember things. ;-) Anyway, one of the lines is – wait, I remember the name of the song: Gotta Get Drunk – one of the lines was “Gotta get drunk, gotta get drunk, just to look at you.” HA! BA HA HA HA! It was classic. We got him to play it twice more at the end.

The keg finally ran out and someone made a comment alluding us to our new, unforgivable predicament. Our one-man band guy overheard us discussing it: “What!? The keg ran out? Ok, I’m going to play one more song, then we’re all heading over to Zik’s.” Life is too funny.

That’s a sweet line for a song! Almost as good as Homer Simpson’s quote of “Alcohol. The cause of and solution to all of life’s problems.” I’m thinking no for the trip to Houghton over Labor Day weekend. I really want to, but the cost is too much to “gulp”. Perhaps the end of September?? Do you think it’ll be snowing then? hehe!
