Social Network? No. Social Hurricane.

One of the interesting things about the Internet is the vast network of people out there. I’ve met a lot of those people through the MMBA. Unfortunately, I’ve met most of those people during races and related social events when crowd hopping is a necessity.
For example, I was deliriously happy at the pre-race party for the Copper Harbor Fat Tire Festival. Ask anyone who met me. I had a big smile on my face and I was euphoric. I was just so freakin’ happy that I don’t know how to describe it. I knew almost everyone in the room and was highly entertained by those I didn’t really know (thanks Wisconsinites!). One group of people was the Lakeland Area Mountain Biking Organization. The group of twenty-five from Rhinelander were excellent people who are, apparently, excited about winning a block of cheese, next year (I am working on this). Man, there are some great looking mountain biking men from Wisconsin! Almost makes me want to move back, but that Packer thing kind of kills the deal.
Anyway.
I don’t feel I gave everyone the attention that I wanted to. I was busy with the meet ‘n greet with old friends, new friends, and visitors. I almost felt like a salesperson. I also feel the same way about my recent Munising trip for the Tour da Woods hosted by the Anna River Pedalers. For those of you who don’t feel I was attentive enough when I met you, I am sorry. Try meeting me when I don’t have other obligations to worry about.
You know how it is.
Truth be told, not only do I get excited when I meet people, but I get overwhelmed, as well. I’ve met an incredible number of people. What really sucks is that I am horrible with remembering names. I also have this horrible habit of scheduling myself beyond sanity. If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll know what I mean. Oh, yes, I did get the dishes done, today. It’s nice having something to eat off of.
Let’s bring this back to the Internet thing. There are so many of you, out there, who know me through my words, whether they be on the MMBA web site or through this blog. You know a lot more about me than I do about you, if there even is any acquaintance on my part.
This whole mountain biking thing has been incredible. It is truly amazing how the love of one sport can bring so many people together, almost like old friends. Fortunately, many of us will meet again, like old friends.
