The Art of Snow Blowing

By Diane Ursu

Somehow, I get the feeling that many of you have never blown snow. I’m talking about the white stuff that falls from the sky and using a fun, mechanical contraption that broadcasts the snow out of the area to be cleared. Snow blowing is very much a part of my life, especially when returning from a week-long trip to Marquette.

Early Saturday morning, I arrived home and parked my vehicle on the road. There was a foot of the white, fluffy stuff waiting for me. I walked down the quarter-mile driveway to the garage and immediately started up the snow blower.

This is the view of my driveway from the road, Saturday morning.

It was my hope that the job wouldn’t take too long, but that was way too much to ask. Since the snow was so deep, I had to do the job quite slowly, and I had to clear as much as possible. It took me a total of three hours before I could walk back to the end of the driveway to get my vehicle.

Three hours!

Even when working outside, I take note of camera moments. I really do carry a camera on some snow blowing excursions.

I know that many people think I’m crazy for maintaining such a long driveway with a snow blower. Well, I am crazy. I’ve learned that a tad bit of insanity mixed with good humor is necessary in coping with reality. Fortunately, my three-hour stroll down my driveway included beautiful weather with pastel skies. It was a beautiful sight. It made the snow blowing more enjoyable.

You know sometimes a snow thrower company will let you use there latest stuff if you want to write a report on the operation and use. Just an Idea if the machine starts to act up.
I miss the 18-24″ stuff we got around Bel Air in Antrim county.

Well, I didn’t feel like skiing because it was zero degrees, and my skis simply won’t glide when it’s that cold. I’ve also been really lazy, lately. No, it didn’t feel like it was that great of a workout, but I guess I’ll take it.

Hey that driveway photo looks very familiar! How are ya? I’ve been very busy with work. I’m fully booked for an entire month. Guess i should plan a day off at some point so i don’t go crazy. Hope all is well in God’s Country!

I’m so glad you stopped by, Erin! Believe me, I was thinking about you and Mike when I was doing some serious clearing. I was wishing you guys were here. :-)
