How to Start the New Year…If You’re Di

“Where’d you go?” my dad asked.

“For a bike ride,” I replied.

“What are you crazy!?” He looked at me like I was, well, crazy.

“Yeah, I am,” I said rather matter-of-factly.

This morning, I woke up bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and hangover free. I threw on some comfortable clothes, popped in my contacts, and headed downstairs to see what I could do with my bikes.

Some of you are quite aware of my present bicycle situation. The Jamis is still broken and the wheels on the Trek have been wobbly. I tried switching out the wheels, but I soon realized that the rear wheel situation wasn’t happening. I had to think quickly because I wanted to somehow get out and ride, so I chose to swap out the skewers instead of the whole wheel.

It worked!!

I took the bike out for a little ride on the country roads near my parents’ house. Let’s quickly review the day’s events:

  • Spent time with bikes swapping skewers, lubing, and cleaning

  • Went for bike ride
  • Had beer right after bike ride

If this isn’t the right way to start out the New Year, then I am lost and can never be found.

Some of you are also probably quite aware that it doesn’t take the New Year for me set new goals. The fact that I am starting a new training log is more pressure to get out and collect miles than the fact that it is simply a new year. This goal I am setting, now, is very easy to obtain. My goal is to get into better shape. Considering how out-of-shape I am right now, this should be cake. ;-)

To check out my training log and to download a copy in Excel format, check out my post, Transitions.
