2011 MMBA Annual Meeting & Expo—A Photo Essay

I was super busy for this year’s expo, so I didn’t get many pictures. I did manage to get some completely useless photos…that may be kind of enjoyable. Nate Phelps and Jason Dew (I believe that’s Jason Dew) showing us how it’s done with the Ditch Witch. I know that’s Nate because he turned to look at the camera as I snapped the photo. MMBA Annual Meeting and Expo – A Photo Essay

I apologize for the really bad quality of these photos. I was using a borrowed camera that I do not feel is very good, and it was horrible in the type of lighting we had at the expo. At least we have the memory. Six-time Leadville 100 winner Dave Wiens and me. Dave Wiens talking to the crowd at the 2010 MMBA Annual Meeting and Expo. Complaining About the MMBA

The MMBA recently asked all trail coordinators to remove teeter totters from the trails for insurance reasons. This is a nationwide issue. The MMBA Freeride Forum was full of users who were up in arms over this. After 13 pages of complaining and hating the MMBA, I wrote the following. It is clear to me than many of you have no idea how the MMBA works. That’s okay. I didn’t know how it worked until I became a board member. The state board works on larger tasks such as: Finding recently-introduced legislation that can be harmful to our sport. This can include legislation that allows horses on all trails, legislation that bans us from all public trails, and everything in between. Working with IMBA to find and pay for a … Read entire article »

Massive Fallout

I spent most of yesterday driving down from Marquette. After a detour through [near] Owosso, I headed to Mt. Clemens to begin my several-day excursion to the Detroit area for some mountain biking. I know… …I’ve heard it from so many people: “Why would you go down there to mountain bike?” Well, because there is a lot of mountain biking down there. Sure, it’s not like the stuff we have in the Keweenaw or the rest of the Upper Peninsula, but they still have some great trails with their own special characteristics. Many of the trails are just incredibly freakin’ fun! Today, my guide, John Rose of Knobby Tire Tours, showed me around the Stony Creek Metropark trails. John is also co-director of the Michigan … Read entire article »

Getting Involved

Getting Involved

When I wrote yesterday’s post, I was feeling pretty cruddy (upper respiratory infection) and all I wanted to do was sleep. I went downstate, last weekend, and all I brought back was this stupid cold! While swimming in my self-misery, I forgot to mention one of the key things that took me down to Lansing. As some of you may remember, I accepted a nomination to run for one of the Michigan … Read entire article »
