Zinc Oxide and Acne

I’ve noticed that my skin has been fairly clear over the last few weeks. This is important because I usually have horrible breakouts, especially just prior to that special time of the month that only women experience. I’ve been doing some research on the benefits of zinc oxide in relation to skin health. This research started with poison ivy treatment. I think I may have my first case of contact dermatitis in response to poison ivy exposure. We’ll see. I don’t have the classic poison ivy rash, and the timing is a bit off in comparison to my last known exposure to poison ivy, so I will be doing a spot test when my current itchy spots clear. Train Wreck

Last night, after snowshoeing, a shower, and some much needed girling up, I got a quick massage. It was a nice wake-up call. My friend, Johanna, is a massage therapist in Copper Harbor. In the winter, she gives massages upstairs at The Mariner North. During the warmer months, she can be found at her studio, Spirit of the North Wellness. Happy, exercised, showered, girled-up Di went for a 15-minute massage. I used to get somewhat regular massages, but that’s just not something a poor college student can do, these days, especially since much of my free money goes towards the traditional beverage of the area: beer. Sow, na

Having lived in and/or associated with the great Upper Peninsula citizens for over five years, I have finally succumbed to the appropriate pronunciation of the word sauna. Having come from Lower Michigan, I tend to say, “saw’na.” That just doesn’t sound right, anymore. While reading an excellent cross country ski magazine, I came across an article about the glorious sauna. One of the first things this magazine did was set its readers straight about the pronunciation of the word: sow’na. How ’bout that! Merriam-Webster gives both pronunciations, while The Free Dictionary gives only the former. The Upper Peninsula, especially the Keweenaw Peninsula, has a large Finnish influence.
