To Notice
After driving by the Keweenaw Bay for three years, I finally decided to stop alongside the road to capture one of the many spectacular views this great bay provides. I was quite interested in the steam that rolled off of the bay early Saturday morning. It was about -20â° F as the sun rose behind the Huron Mountains. Whenever I drive by the Keweenaw Bay, I find it difficult to keep my eyes … Read entire article »

Vacancy Welcomed
Note: I have some funky, weird visual thing going on with my computer, so I really can’t see what I’m doing as I post this. I have finally put up the posts for the last four days. I think you will find some of them quite enjoyable. I also proofread these once I get to a computer that doesn’t have some funky, weird visual thing going on with it. I am a little disappointed in today’s outcome. For the last two days, my throat has been hinting that something just might be wrong. I heard its message, but I tried very hard to live in denial. Unfortunately, when your body has an unwelcome visitor, denial is quite off denied. … Read entire article »

The Vacation Commences
It is amazing how, as a student, I get the summer, Thanksgiving week, three weeks for Christmas, and spring break off, but I never really take a vacation. That’s what this week is about. I was contacted by a troll (someone from Lower Michigan – under da bridge, the Mackinac Bridge ) who is coming up for the week for work. He wants a snowshoe guide. I decided that … Read entire article »

Beneficial Blogging
I don’t really promote my blog to people I know. In fact, I am rather secretive about it until someone finds me on the Internet and brings it up. I do find it kind of weird that I post so much information about my life for others to read. I also find it kind of fascinating that there are people out there who find me fascinating. It is kind of strange receiving messages from people saying that they admire me and all of my accomplishments, or that my blog encourages them to do and see more. It is strange. It is also good. I am very happy that this blog serves a better purpose of inspiring others. I enjoy writing it, and … Read entire article »

A Good Start
I decided to head to Copper Harbor to greet 2009 with people I hold near and dear to me: my friends. I was quite surprised to find that this little white, northernmost town in Michigan provided the most exciting New Year’s party in the history of Di. New Year’s even started on a healthy note when I took a little stroll along Lake Superior with my good friend, Amanda. There was a break … Read entire article »
Best of Moronacity – 2008
Note: When I first posted this, I forgot to add the photo that got the most attention this summer. I took a photo on the newest crown jewel of the Copper Harbor trail system: the Stairway to Heaven. This is probably the best picture of 2008: This is a year-in-review for the Moronacity blog. Three best of lists follow. Best Photos of 2008 A link to the original post follows each picture. Christmas 2008 – A Photo Essay
Merry Christmas, all! My internet is still out, so posts will continue to be sparse for a while. In the meantime, here is the photo essay I promised! The famous chocolate chip cookies. Singing Christmas Tree. … Read entire article »

Many Possibilities
I am getting very excited! My last exam is tomorrow morning, and I am going to follow that up with a workout at the gym and possibly even a…a bike ride! I am really feeling the motivation. Actually, I’m feeling quite drawn to my bike. I want to ride. On the bike is the one place where I feel all is right with the world, and I am as I should be. The reality is that it is going to snow, tomorrow – big surprise – and the wind chill is going to be below zero. A bike ride is rather challenging with those temperatures. My other option is to snowshoe. A nice snowshoe through the Michigan Tech forest may be just what … Read entire article »

Facing My Addiction
I have an addictive personality. Those of you who regularly follow this blog have probably figured that out, by now. I immerse myself in my projects. It’s not that I have just a couple of projects, but I get involved with many projects. It’s quite insane. These projects are all related, too. A quick synopsis: • Applying for med school: the type of doctor I wish to become has … Read entire article »

Sow, na
Having lived in and/or associated with the great Upper Peninsula citizens for over five years, I have finally succumbed to the appropriate pronunciation of the word sauna. Having come from Lower Michigan, I tend to say, “saw’na.” That just doesn’t sound right, anymore. While reading an excellent cross country ski magazine, I came across an article about the glorious sauna. One of the first things this magazine did was set its readers straight about the pronunciation of the word: sow’na. How ’bout that! Merriam-Webster gives both pronunciations, while The Free Dictionary gives only the former. The Upper Peninsula, especially the Keweenaw Peninsula, has a large Finnish influence. These American citizens are often referred to as the Fins, or Finlanders. The culture is different, here, … Read entire article »
