Women, Beauty, and the Media
One of my friends posted this on Facebook. Please take the time to watch it. It is very interesting and makes an important point about a real problem. I admit, I sometimes see pictures of women and think, “Why can’t I be like that? Why can’t my legs be skinny or my arms look like a 20-year-old’s?” Well, there are a few reasons. The reasons I can’t control are: My metabolism noticeably … Read entire article »

2011 DNR Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) Clinic at Stony Creek
After only three hours of sleep, I dragged myself out of bed to pull myself together in time for my friend, Kris, to pick me up. We traveled down to Stony Creek Metropark to volunteer at the DNR’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) mountain bike clinic. This was my first time attending one of these events. Of course, it was taught by MMBA volunteers, some of whom are friends with whom I absolutely … Read entire article »

Chrysler-Eminem Commercial Evokes Detroit Pride
Chances are that someone who doesn’t like Detroit, someone who won’t go there, someone who just doesn’t get it, is someone who hasn’t been there. Those who have been there have probably experienced a different Detroit than the one that lives on in the reputation of a run-down, high-crime city of urban death. Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit in April 2007. Last night’s Super Bowl sucked. It just sucked. The national anthem was butchered … Read entire article »

2011 MMBA Annual Meeting & Expo—A Photo Essay
I was super busy for this year’s expo, so I didn’t get many pictures. I did manage to get some completely useless photos…that may be kind of enjoyable. Nate Phelps and Jason Dew (I believe that’s Jason Dew) showing us how it’s done with the Ditch Witch. I know that’s Nate because he turned to look at the camera as I snapped the photo. Jason Wells (orange shirt) of … Read entire article »

Reminiscing of Days Past
For me, the interesting thing about keeping a blog isn’t sharing my life with everyone on the Internet, but going through all the posts I made throughout the year. This is what I did today. It seems like most of my posts are about mountain biking with Glen and Ali. One of the posts that I wrote was about our ride at the Poto. I almost forgot about that day, but that post … Read entire article »

Mountain Biking Is Better Than Prozac
I was one of many who needed the help of Prozac during the first half of my twenties. Now, Prozac has the reputation of being the “happy drug,” and having been on the maximum dosage for a while, I could attest to that, at times. I think it was simply the “happy drug” towards the end when things were simply getting better, my viewpoint was changing, my social network greatly improved, and I … Read entire article »

Flowing, Flying, and Stopping Dead on the Vasa
On Sunday, August 29, Ali guided me through some of the Vasa singletrack. One word: cool. I rate the singletrack as a beginner trail. The 25k would be an intermediate. It is relatively flat and not really technical, although it was particularly sandy in spots when we rode it. Ali gave me the impression that the degree of sandiness was unusual. Ali also took me on some of … Read entire article »

Washed Up, Washed Out, Whateva! The Potawatomi
The Poto is a trail with contradictory reputations. “It’s the best trail in Lower Michigan!” This statement often comes from people who probably have not ridden some of the best trails in Lower Michigan, and many of Lower Michigan’s trails have fans who say this about their favorite trails. “It’s okaaaaay, very eroded. You’d like such-and-such better.” Of course, every trail also has a group of riders that don’t appreciate that trail. Hm. A … Read entire article »
