The Girl Mountain Bikes!
I haven’t been very conscientious about posting my food intake. I know that. I also know my agreement with Ali, Andrea, and Sean. I haven’t been whimping out, however. With the onset of Halloween month (yes, I just called it a month), I bought a bag of candy and have been eating it quite religiously. I also picked the few apples that grew on only one of my apple trees … Read entire article »

Changes
Well, I certainly did not stay within my POINTS range, today. Before dinner, I’ve consumed 41 POINTS. That works out to about 2,050 calories. I knew what I was getting into with the milkshake. That was planned. I feel like crap. I feel tired and my throat hurts. It’s been hurting for two days, now. Yes, I have a cold. Ick. How fun. I wanted super cool comfort food, so I bought a bucket of Jilberts vanilla ice cream. It took care of my throat for about the duration of the grand sucking down of yummy chocolate shake. Now, that shake would not have been so full of calories if I limited myself to the half-scoop of … Read entire article »

A Difficult Challenge
Ali and I have begun to record our daily food intake on our blogs. When Andrea returns to blog land, I hope she will join us. Click here to read my weight loss proposal. I didn’t keep track of calories, yesterday, but I have started recording the numbers, today. I don’t record calories, fat, and fiber, but I keep track of my food intake using the Weight Watchers POINTS! system I learned when I was a member back in 2002 or so. I found the Weight Watchers meetings to be the greatest asset when I first started. I needed to be held accountable, and a weekly weigh-in with supportive talks and rewards, even though they were trivial, were quite helpful in helping me to drop over … Read entire article »

Endeavoring To Pursue An Interest
Anyone who knows me knows that I am full of brilliant ideas. Well, I have a brilliant idea I’d like to share with you. I have two particular readers in mind. Just follow me. Andrea was recently inspired by my reflective post about my 2008 goals to write a goal-oriented post of her own (read this sentence very carefully – it really does make sense). Ali recently wrote a post of goals as well. One goal we all expressed an interest in pursuing is weight loss. I say an interest in pursuing because I don’t want to say a goal we will meet and conquer until we actually do it. At least if it is simply a goal we are interested in … Read entire article »

Season Review – Assessment of 2008 Cycling Goals
In March, I wrote about my goals for 2008. I have shown some definite improvements, and have failed miserably in an area that is most important to me. The point of today’s post is to review those goals, assess my strengths and weaknesses, and make a new plan for the fall and winter. Podium Finishes For All My Races In My Age Group; First Place Age Group Finishes For the Keweenaw Chain Drive, Great Deer Chase, and Fat Tire Festival I was a little skeptical about this goal, but I chose to go for it anyway. Unfortunately, I didn’t train quite as well as I could have, but it was pointed out to me that “that is what ever racer says.” Ok, point taken. Since my … Read entire article »

Momentary Lapse of Willpower . . . Strange Revival
Beer . . . or ride? Hm . . . well, I could sneak a ride in tomorrow even though I’m on call. I’ve done it several times before. I used to do it all the time when I worked full time and fifty percent of my free time really wasn’t free at all . . . because I was on call. That beer really sounds good. I don’t know if I’ve told you this, but I’ve given up beer until Fat Tire weekend (that is Labor Day weekend for you non-cycling folk). My friend, Pat, is trying to lose five pounds before the race, and I’m trying to get down to 165 pounds. I was 175 a couple days ago, and it might very … Read entire article »

Gravity Lies
It’s been a frustrating summer. I haven’t really lost any weight. I’ve stuck around 170 pounds all summer. It’s frustrating in the sense that one of my plans for speedier climbing was to lose weight. It’s a great way to get faster! While I haven’t gotten any lighter, I have gotten faster. You should see my legs. They’re pretty spiffy. Not only do they look muscular, but they managed to get me up Woodchip Hill in the Ore to Shore (I can’t mention this enough!). Sure, they burned like crazy and I had to do a recovery spin before I could make my final attack on the last few miles, but I made it without putting a foot down. Maintaining my weight … Read entire article »

Weight Loss 10
I saw one of the Bridget Jones movies, today [again]. They’re fun movies, and it always blows my mind how Renee Zellweger managed to gain thirty pounds, and then lose it, more than once . . . successfully. Yes, I know she has professional everythings helping her along, but there has to be a way that I can lose my fifteen pounds. Oh, wait! There is! It’s called my ten hour rule. I must ride ten hours a week. I haven’t been doing that, but I’ve had good weight weeks when I hit at least eight hours. I haven’t ridden this week – my week starts on Monday – so I have some catching up to do. I’ve been splitting wood for the last … Read entire article »

Spring Training is Here
I woke up this morning with one thing in mind: long ride. I wanted to do a moderate ride for about three hours. I had three goals in mind:1. Average about 15 mph2. Maintain an efficient pedal stroke3. Ride for three hours I ate a healthy breakfast:* Malt-O-Meal* Yogurt with raspberries, vanilla, and chocolate chips * Grapefruit* 2 slices of toast* Water It took me longer than expected to get my lazy butt out the door, so I had a salad:* Leaf lettuce* Tomato* Croutons* Homemade French dressing I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cut it in two, wrapped the halves, filled two water bottles with Heed and left. I didn’t meet the first goal. I took it fairly easy starting out. I maintained a speed of … Read entire article »

Protein-Packed Quinoa
I have a box of quinoa that has been sitting in my cupboard for three years. I bought it because I read that it was good for you. I never opened it . . . until the other day. I was in the mood for chicken noodle soup. The only problem I have with chicken noodle soup is that it is so watery without enough substance to it. Of course, … Read entire article »
