Is your ‘Order of the Mass’ available in book form or pocket size?
I cannot find a pocket-sized book of the Mass, but The Catholic Prayer Book contains the Order of the Mass along with a collection of prayers. It is by far my favorite prayer book. Its dimensions are approximately 6 1/3″ x 4 1/3″ x 2/3″, so it will fit in most purses.
Can the the Kyrie, Gloria, and pentitential rite ever be eliminated from Sunday Mass, even during Easter season?
Thank you.
GW
Yes. The Penitential Rite, including the Kyrie is excluded when there is a rite of blessing and sprinkling of the holy water. There is no penitential rite on Palm Sunday. There are also alternative forms of the penitential rite than that which is posted in the Order of the Mass, here. The Gloria is never said or sung during Lent. Lent ends at sunset on Holy Thursday, so the Gloria is said at the Evening Mass on this day. Bells may be rung. The Gloria is not sung again and bells are not rung until the Easter Vigil Mass in celebration of Christ’s resurrection. It is tradition to bring a bell to Easter Vigil and ring it throughout the Gloria.
