In my previous post, I discussed choosing the right keywords for driving traffic to your web pages. Good AdWords is a wonderful tool that also tells you the average cost-per-click (CPC) for ads for each AdWord.

Choosing AdWords based on CPC is not a wise choice when the goal is to drive traffic to your site; however, combing high-CPC words with the traffic-driving words may be beneficial for displaying higher-paying ads.

On the Google AdWords page, there is a dropdown menu that allows you to “Choose columns to display.” Choose the option “Show Estimated Avg. CPC.” This column will show up on the left side of the page. It will be the first column. Click on the blue column header “Estimated Avg. CPC” to change the order of the keywords. Clicking once will order the words from lowest CPC to highest CPC. Clicking a second time will order the words from highest to lowest.

Select “Show Estimated Avg. CPC” from the “Choose columns to display” dropdown menu.

Since your first list of keywords are optimal for searches (see previous post, “Using Google AdWords“), make a second list of high-paying CPC words. Make sure that these words can be incorporated into your article without making the article look like a keyword stuffer. For example, don’t use misspelled keywords because they take from the credibility of your article.

Using Google AdWords

The art of keyword searching is definitely a learning process. Many new online writers spend the bulk of their time surfing the Internet in search of articles that will teach them SEO in an instant. Unfortunately, many of those SEO articles say the same thing:

You must write articles with good SEO content. Use Google AdWords to find the right keywords.

That pretty much sums up what many SEO-advisors say in several paragraphs. Unfortunately for you and me, that information is completely useless. We need to know how to use AdWords to find the perfect keywords. What makes a keyword good?
