Rub the Right Way
Every minute we spend with our horse is valuable. Contact is very important in order to develop a close relationship. Many of the things we do around the barn are chores that we just want to get done. Even grooming is sometimes considered to be a chore. However, this can be a bad attitude when it comes to your horse. Grooming should be a special time to spend with your horse.
Grab your currycomb and let your horse smell it, chew on it, or play with it however he likes. Begin currying and pay special attention to what the horse really enjoys. If he likes to be rubbed in one spot, why not rub a little longer?
Don't be afraid to stop currying for a minute to go up to the horse and say, "Hi!" Pet him on the face and talk to him a little. Do this every time you brush your horse. Not only does your horse enjoy this kind of interaction with you, but you can observe how the horse reacts and learn a little about his "horse speak."
This is just one little thing you can do to strengthen the bond between you and your horse.
