Pre-Marathon Training Program The following is a 28-week program designed to get you ready for some serious marathon training. This program is great for beginners and an excellent program for more advanced runners who wish to build speed. The first half focuses on building you up to run 5k (3.1 miles) without walking. It is a slow progressing program. Like every physical program, you will only get out of it what you put into it. If you work really hard, you’ll only be that much better when you finish.
